Guest Post: Stencilling

With Mrs Sew Funky being off her feet this week, it's up to me to entertain and inform you all. I'm not knitter but I have found a new love and it's the closet I'll probably come to being crafty! Mrs Sew Funky found out about Reynolds Freezer Paper and arranged for some friend to bring some back from America for her. The thing with Reynolds Freezer paper is that it has a shiny side that, if ironed shiny side down will stick to cloth, making it ideal for single use stencils for T-Shirts and Jeans!

Being the geek that I am, I decided to try out the concept on an old pair of Jeans with a design to promote my movie site, FilmGuide. I didn't have any fabric paint or screen printing ink, so I used a can of black spray paint. It worked rather well, but I probably could have used more spray paint.

Next up I'm going to do a FilmGuide T-Shirt, using the same technique, but using much more paint.

still sick...

I'm still fighting this darn viral thing. It's almost been a week of croaking and squeaking and I've had about enough. Us mum's have to soldier on, when all I want to do is go to bed for a day or two. :(

So I haven't been up to much, a little bit of knitting, some television and of course the school drop off/pick ups.

As you'll see if you look in the sidebar, Mr Sew-Funky has added an rss feed to his little "hobby". He likes to do film reviewing, and you can see what he and a couple of other's think about the latest flicks by clicking on any of those feeds.

Make a fantastic looking journal...

Requirements;
2 x medium weight card (23cm x 16cm)
2 x cotton fabric (36cm x 29 cm)
1 x polar fleece/wadding (23cm x 14cm)
p.v.a glue
paint brush
2 x light cardstock (14.5cm x 10cm)
A5 paper - however many sheets you would like

1. Choose and cut out your fabric to the measurements given above. If you are using wadding, cut out a piece. I used polar fleece as a cheap alternative because I have so much of it in my stash - use whatever you have.


2. Glue the polar fleece to the card, as in the picture below. You need to leave approx 2 cm on one side so that when you punch the holes out later it will be flat.


3. Glue the 2 cm edge you left.


4. If you are not using polar fleece/wadding, and for the back cover, glue one side of the medium weight card.


5. Place the card glue side down on the fabric, making sure to place it in the middle.


6. Flip it over, and glue a square in the corner (like in the picture below).


7. Fold the corner in and glue down.


8. Repeat on all 4 corners.


9. Glue and fold in sides.


10. Glue the light cardstock to cover the edges.


11. Leave to dry. I hastened the drying process by ironing mine.


12. Punch holes in the A5 paper using the guides on the hole punch.


13. Punch holes in the covers, making sure it is centred.


14. Bringing it all together... Choose some ribbon to match and tie a nice bow to finish.

busy day...

It's been a busy day today, catching up with a friend and shopping. Only, I didn't shop much as I managed to leave my eftpos card at home and so had no dosh... Too funny, my friend had been saying I should learn to like window shopping, and today it was enforced. We went to spotlight, my favourite shop of all time, and I spent nothing. She, however, bought some wool for me to knit her into a hat. So in some ways it felt like I wasn't going home empty handed... ;)

I am still processing all that I learned at the autism conference. It was so enlightening and my head knowledge about autism has been greatly expanded.

I haven't had much time to craft or read blogs or anything much else, but I am planning on doing a whole lot of that tomorrow. Look out, everyone!

10,000 and counting...

As my wonderful husband, Mr Sew-Funky pointed out, I am now past the 10,000 visitor mark. Thanks to all of you who've visited my little space on the net!

I am feeling HEAPS better today, made it to the conference, which is AWESOME. I've learned heaps today, especially from the main speaker - Tony Attwood. I could spend hours listening to the guy, the time just FLEW! If you ever get the opportunity and want to learn more about autism and aspergers this is THE MAN!!!!

I'll be back at it tomorrow. :)

starfish cloth

This is going to become one of my FAVOURITE CLOTHS of all time, it looks so CUTE and is so EASY to make...

Materials: 1 ball worsted weight cotton yarn, size 4mm needles. I used Anchor Magicline for this cloth, which gave it a lovely effect - it's a self-striping yarn.

Instructions:
Cast on 15 stitches.
This cloth is made up of 6 wedges, all exactly the same. Then the edge is sewn together, the threads are sewn in and the cloth is complete. :)

Every wedge:
Row 1 and all odd rows: K across to last 3 stitches, P3.
Row 2: K3, YO, K to last st, turn.
Row 4: K3, YO, K to last 2 sts, turn.
Row 6: K3, YO, K to last 3 sts, turn.
Row 8: K3, YO, K to last 4 sts, turn.
Row 10: K3, YO, K to last 5 sts, turn.
Row 12: K3, YO, K to last 6 sts, turn.
Row 14: K3, YO, K to last 7 sts, turn.
Row 16: K3, YO, K to last 8 sts, turn.
Row 18: K3, YO, K to last 9 sts, turn.
Row 20: K3, YO, K to last 10 sts, turn.
Row 22: K3, YO, K to last 11 sts, turn.
Row 24: K3, YO, K to last 12 sts, turn.
Row 26: Cast off 12 sts, K to end of row.

Now, look at how EASY that wedge is! You won't even have to print the pattern out!!! :)
