new fabric...

Spotlight is a dangerous shop for my bank balance, especially with my new addiction to fabric. I managed to contain it a little by only buying three different fabrics, but that was largely due to having Mr. Sew-Funky with me at the time!

Please excuse the quality of the pictures, I really must get photography lessons...

CRAYON BOX - Japanese fabric
I think this fabric would be great to make crayon roll's with... at least that's the plan!

FLORAL KITTY'S
I couldn't resist buying this super cute kitty fabric... I don't know if I've said this on the sew-funky blog before or not, but if it wasn't for Mr. Sew-Funky I believe they'd be calling me the crazy cat lady!!! ;)

CIRCUS BANANZA
Hmmm! When I spotted this on Silly Gilly's blog and then at Spotlight all on the same day, I knew I had to have some of this fabric. She say's she doesn't like the clowns, but I do! :D

craft score...

Today was a great day for cardmaking!

I discovered that the warehouse was selling these (see pic above!) boxes of 50 blank cards/envelopes for 75% off making them $3.25 each!! I couldn't help but buy 10 boxes of them, so now I have 500 cards to play around with - yay! So, if you live in NZ and like to make your own cards, like me - head on down to your local red shack and see if you can score some for yourself... :D

a new collection of aprons!

and other cool items...

After voting this morning and taking Mr SewFunky to work (aargh he has to work today and tomorrow - all weekend!), I decided to stop by my favourite bargain warehouse - Mr Bo Jumbles. What a haul we got! New (to us anyway) clothes, tablecloths, fabric, aprons and a really cute little puppet!

Here are the aprons, modeled by the lovely Hope (& Bree);

And a tablecloth (I LOVE the colours!)

Fabric (that brown thing had been marked for embroidery - a cushion cover?)

And an embroidered cloth ( the teacup is actually a little pocket! - very CUTE!)

And a cute little handmade dress that I'm going to make into a bag! Yes, it's wool and embroidered...

And a very AWESOME doggie puppet, Harry!

And on a completely different note, look at what Mr SewFunky found while he was meant to be working!

latest op shop finds...

Here are some of my latest finds...

2 metres of blue fabric, some thread

cool pillowcase (made with trichem fabric paint?) needs an iron

10 pillowcases (50c each!)

Speed Straw (for making retro flowers with my flower loom)
Tatting books and shuttles (another thing I want to learn!)

Embroidery book

Some reading material...

I was really pleased to find the pillowcases yesterday. I went to the only opshop open on Saturday afternoon's (Papakura Anglican Oppy) on a case search. I wanted to make more of those neat pillowcase bags. I couldn't find any in the linen area and was about to give up all hope, when I spied a full container of them by the counter! What luck! There was heaps to choose from and all at 50c a case!! I now feel less jealous of Curlypops pillowcase finds. :)

The books were a little present to myself, I need a little relaxation (think time-out), and these books should provide a little respite. I am really enjoying Jodi Picoult's book, Perfect Match, but then I always enjoy reading her books!

It's really hard to believe it's November already! Christmas is just around the corner and I've only just begun to think about what to get for everybody. So the next couple of days I intend to start planning and organising it all. I plan on making as much as possible from my sewing room stash. :)

I hope you are all having a great weekend, I am, the girls are in their bedrooms doing the great big tidy, and I'm getting to have some Mum time on the computer - what fun! :)

I love spotlight and other stories...

Spotlight would have to be my all time favourite store ever.

My last few visits have been absolutely fantastic. I am a bargain hunter extraordinaire and unfortunately my craft room reflects that (think cluttered, full). Still, I really can't pass up a bargain and look what I got today!

I got all these books and magazines for $1 each! Some of the magazines are recent issues, boy was I excited to see some Handmade mag's in there! Doing the happy dance here!

This is what I got:
Celebration Days Volume 2 knitting and crochet book
Not Your Mama's knitting book ( I got two of these, because at $1 I'm sure to be able to find someone else who wants it!)
Soft Dolls & Animals July 2007
Soft Dolls & Animals November 2007
Papercrafts June/July 2008
Handmade Vol 25 No 3
Handmade Vol 25 No 7
Handmade Vol 25 No 9 Christmas in July
Handmade Vol 25 No 10

Amazing, huh! Mr Sew Funky came with me to Spotlight too, which hardly ever happens because it's probably his least favourite store!

On another note, I got Mr Sew Funky to take a photo of what my new t-shirt looks like. I love, love, love it! In case you're wondering where I got the image from, maybe you've been inspired to make your own. I got the silhouette picture from the Karen's Whimsy website. Honestly, if you want a resource for public domain images you need look no further than her website. It's fabulous. Silhouette images make freezer paper stencils so easy to make, and she has quite a few on offer there. I've used the quail, horse and woman so far and hope to use the elephant too!

And look what I did today... I organised all my cards. I have a few hundred cards that I was lucky enough to get for free a year or so ago. They've been sitting all in a jumble since then. It was bugging me everytime I went to look for one, because it was a mission to find the 'right' one. Now there is order, and it should be an easy task to grab a card as I am running out the door! YAY me!

I have already cut the flaps off the box (after I took this photo - lol) and I'm thinking it would be nice to make the box more attractive. Maybe I'll cover the box with fabric? I don't know.
All in all, a pretty awesome day!

Reasons why I like Spotlight...

I popped over to my local Spotlight yesterday, and got some really GREAT bargains. Yarn was $1 a ball and I got a bag of fantastic fabric remnants ($10) and a bag of trims ($5). Woohoo!

Forgive the quality of the pictures - in my excitement to get them up on the blog, some are a little blurry!
8 balls of cotton yarn ($1 a ball)
Trim (look at the DORA stuff!) $5

All the rest of the pic's are of the fabric I got in the remnant bag ($10).

I can't wait to use it - thinking bibs, dolls, softies...
