another baby star is formed...

I really like this pattern, it's quick, easy and I love how it turns out. This time I made it with two strands of 6ply cotton that my good friend Lianne found on a opshop expedition she made last Wednesday. Love the colours!!! :)

I changed the pattern so that it had a seed stitch edge.

Baby Star with Seed Edge

Materials: 2 balls 6ply cotton yarn, size 4mm needles.

Instructions:
Cast on 12 stitches.
This cloth is made up of 7 wedges, all exactly the same. Then the edge is sewn together, the threads are sewn in and the cloth is complete. :)

Every wedge:

Row 1 and all odd rows: K to last 2 stitches, P1, K1.
Row 2: K1, P1, K1, YO, K to last st, turn.
Row 4: K1, P1, K1, YO, K to last 2 sts, turn.
Row 6: K1, P1, K1, YO, K to last 3 sts, turn.
Row 8: K1, P1, K1, YO, K to last 4 sts, turn.
Row 10: K1, P1, K1, YO, K to last 5 sts, turn.
Row 12: K1, P1, K1, YO, K to last 6 sts, turn.
Row 14: K1, P1, K1, YO, K to last 7 sts, turn.
Row 16: K1, P1, K1, YO, K to last 8 sts, turn.
Row 18: K1, P1, K1, YO, K to last 9 sts, turn.

Knitting Kits for two 11 year old girls

Hope and two of her friends ran the games for Briahna's birthday party. They were great and I felt that I needed to give them something to show my appreciation for what they did.

I know that Hannah loves to knit, but I'm not sure about Rachael, still knitting is always a great skill to learn!

Included in the kit; knitting needles, 2 balls of yarn, beginners instructions and a homemade tote bag.

thing a day; seventeen

Yesterday, my friend Jodee showed off some little finger puppets she has knitted recently, telling me they were super easy to make. So today, I decided to try making some for myself, and here are the results:

Aimee with Horse & Pig

I am going to try the other three finger puppets in the series later on tonight. Jonathan is taking Hope & Aimee to church, but since Briahna is still sick I am spending the night at home with her and my knitting needles! You can find the free pattern on the How Stuff Works website.

I made a trip to Spotlight to buy a couple of balls of wool so that I could complete the set of puppets and came out with 22 balls of wool...

They were having a big clear-out and each ball was just $1.99 each. What a bargain, I couldn't just leave with 2 balls! The best buy had to be the Cleckheaton Machine Wash Crepe Wool which is usually $8 a ball. After convincing myself that I wouldn't have to buy any more wool for a while I headed to the counter to make my purchases ($44 worth!). I am a happy girl!

My wool supply worries are over!

thing a day; five

I didn't have a whole lot of time to craft today. I was tired, and went shopping! I am working on doing a knitting chart for a dishcloth but that's taking an inordinate amount of time - I am sure that once I "get it" it will be a lot easier, but till I get there....

I did get to Spotlight and got some cheap yarn ($1.99 a ball - YAY!). So I figure I did do something crafty, even if it was shopping ;). While I was there I picked up some cool jewellery for the kids and also for two birthday parties coming up on Saturday! I have plans to make both birthday girls a tote bag and give them a necklace and bracelet set each! The other three bracelet sets are going to be for the girls for Valentines day! It's one less thing I have to make!!

Op Shoppin! - 2

After last weeks adventure - I decided to go again! A little bit of a mistake, because it's always hard to beat a good week - you find yourself a little disappointed in the weeks to follow!

Still, I didn't come away empty handed!

I got a vintage curtain, it's gonna look great as a skirt for one of the girls! Long live "The Sound of Music", she always inspires me! Two balls of cotton, one mercerised (1976) and the other plain old fashioned cotton! You gotta love the fact that these things were probably sitting in some old ladies cupboard for years until they reached me - I'm gonna use them! :D

Dishcloth Dress

Thanks to my good friend Jodee for telling me about this pattern. It knits up quick and looks pretty good too! Not sure if I will ever use it, it's not really a practical shape...

I went to Spotlight today and bought a couple of balls of bamboo/cotton blend (80/20) ($3.99 NZ each) and one of cotton ($5.99 NZ). They are all variegated blends. The above cloth was knitted with one of the bamboo/cotton yarns. I must say knitting with this stuff is much nicer than knitting with acrylic or wool - it's softer. I was going to buy some cotton of the peaches-creme website, but after figuring out the cost's (around $4 NZ a ball - including p&p) I decided that it was cheaper or only slightly more to buy it here. There are more colours available on the web and so I may order some in the future, but for now I will stick with Spotlight.
