bootie pattern!

Here is my favourite bootie pattern, so I won't misplace it in the real world! hehehe!!! It was over on my personal blog, but suits life better here!

Cast on 34 stitches and knit 12 rows.
On the next row, knit 20 stitches, knit 2 together and then turn.
*Slip a stitch (with yarn in front), purl 6, purl 2 together then turn.
Slip a stitch (with yarn in back), knit 6, knit 2 together then turn.*
Do the above set 8 more times, so you knit back and forth on those centre 6 stitches, picking up 2 together on either end, for approx 10 rows, or until you have 24 stitches on your needles. (take a count each row to make sure)
On the last one, knit to the end of the row.
Create an eyelet row for ties: Purl first two stitches, yo, knit 2 together until the end of the row.
Now, knit 20 rows to make the rollover cuff. Cast off.
Stitch the bootie from toe to cuff and turn the right way.
Add ribbon, crocheted yarn or knitted yarn for ties.

Harrison's present

I was wondering how I could pull Harrison's gift together - how could it be packaged?! When, I had a lightbulb moment - a drawstring bag, that could carry dirty nappies when Liz was out and about! So here are Harry's gifts in all their glory...

the bag
I am pleased with how the bag turned out, I sewed across the corners to make a squared bottom, and used some cool american crafts ribbon to match the cute fish I appliqued onto the front.

Having a whale of a time!

It all began when I looked at the scraps of fabric left over from making this mornings bibs. Something looked a little fishy about them…

I drew a picture of what I thought a great softie would look like based on my fishy thoughts. Excuse both the quality of the pics and the quality of the drawing (I’m not an artist!).

I really like my pincushion – I made it when I was about 10 and it’s a monogram of my initials (maiden name, of course!).

This is the result; having a whale of a time! It’s made out of denim, recycled from Jonathan’s favourite jeans. They were so favoured that they were falling apart major time, so he made them into cut-offs for Parachute Music Festival this morning.

Having fun with the whale!

Now only if we had good lighting at night!

Bibs

These bib's are part of a gift for my friend's new baby... They turned out better than the last time. I used chickpea's pattern, but instead of just printed fabric and flannel, I added some toweling to the middle to make it more absorbent!

Pretty good for a very cute little boy!

Gathered Skirt Instructions

I was inspired to make these skirts when I saw my friend’s daughter’s skirt this morning. Looked easy and it was! It was a pumpkin patch skirt – I think?!? If you’re reading this Jodz, let me know.

To work out how much material you need you will need to measure your child’s hip’s. For example Briahna’s hip measurement was 26.5 inches so the band-width equals 13.75 inches with seam allowance (I halved her hip measurement and added a seam allowance of 0.5 inches).

My children’s fabric requirements were;

Cut 2 of everything....

Hope

Band: 8 inches x 18 inches

Gathered Ruffle: 11.5 inches x 34 inches

Aimee

Band: 7 inches x 16.5 inches

Gathered Ruffle: 9.25 inches x 31 inches

Briahna

Band: 7 inches x 13.75 inches

Gathered Ruffle: 8.25 inches x 25.5 inches

To give you an idea of what the above sizes represent - Briahna is a small size 7, Aimee is size 10 and Hope is a size 12/14.

To work out the length of the skirt; measure from the waist-to-the-knee and add a seam allowance.

To figure out the ruffle height measurement; subtract the band measurement from the waist-to-knee measurement.

Instructions:

1. Either overlock or zig-zag the edges of the fabric to prevent fraying. Unfortunately I have to zig-zag because I don’t have an overlocker.

2. Sew the right sides together at the right hand side seam (both band and ruffle).

3. Gather the ruffle by sewing two straight lines along the top of the longest piece. Pull the threads very gently to gather.

4. Line up the seams of this with the band adjusting it to fit the band. Pin and sew them making sure that right sides are together.

5. Sew up the un-sewn side seam, making sure the right sides are together.

6. Fold and iron the top of the skirt over twice to make a casing for the elastic. Using a safety pin or a bodkin thread the elastic through the casing,

7. Hem the skirt by folding, ironing and pinning the bottom of the skirt twice ( I do this with an approx. 1 cm fold both times)

8. Add ric-rac or lace to the hem and/or bottom of the band. This is optional, but looks great.

Let me know if there’s anything in these instructions that you’re unsure about. :)

new skirts

two new skirts made from the curtain fabric I got the other day at the op shop. As I need to get off the computer so the man and his friend can play on the x-box. I will try to remember to write down the instructions of how to make this style of skirt tomorrow! cost = $4 for both of them (including ric rac and notions).
